The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has voiced strong opposition to what it describes as an 'inhumane and violent' act by the police against lawyers in Ghaziabad. The conflict arose from a police lathi charge, instigated during a protest against the judge overseeing the case.
In a resolution, the SCBA has called for an investigation into the conduct of both the judge, identified as Anil Kumar-X, and the police officers involved. The association stressed the need for accountability and demanded action from the Allahabad High Court and the Uttar Pradesh government.
As tensions mount, the SCBA has pledged support to the affected lawyers and implored the Bar Council of India to ensure advocates can work without intimidation. The association also called for compensation for injured parties and preventive measures to avoid future incidents.
