In a significant legal move, the Delhi BJP has initiated a writ petition in the High Court challenging the AAP government's decision not to implement the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme in the capital. This was announced by state BJP president Virendra Sachdeva during a press briefing on Wednesday.
Sachdeva did not hold back in his criticism of the AAP government and its leader, Arvind Kejriwal, accusing them of denying countless eligible Delhi residents the benefits of the Centre's flagship health insurance initiative. This criticism comes amid heightened tensions following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's disapproval of Delhi and West Bengal for their lack of implementation of the scheme.
The feud intensified as Sachdeva pointed out that former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia had previously committed to the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the Delhi Assembly. Despite AAP's apparent shift from this promise, the BJP, according to Sachdeva, is prepared to pursue a legal battle to secure the promised health benefits for Delhi's elderly and other qualifying individuals.
