Brazil Reinforces Security with Military for Upcoming G20 Summit
Brazil plans to deploy its armed forces for security during the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. This measure, called Guarantee of Law and Order, has been used in past major events. Leaders like Joe Biden and Xi Jinping are expected to attend, amid recent local security challenges.
Brazil is preparing to bolster its security with military support in anticipation of the Group of 20 summit set to occur in Rio de Janeiro next month. The city's state secretary for security announced the deployment on Tuesday, setting the stage for a secure environment for attendees.
Known as the Guarantee of Law and Order (GLO), this measure allows the president to temporarily use the armed forces for public patrolling, particularly when regular police forces are insufficient. This protocol was previously enacted during major global events such as the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
With prominent figures like U.S. President Joe Biden and China's Xi Jinping slated to participate, the security arrangement highlights Brazil's commitment to safety amid increasing incidents of violence in Rio. These developments underline the strategic use of military forces for maintaining public order during international gatherings.
