A Bangladeshi national was captured by alert jawans of the Assam police near Karimganj, as confirmed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday. Identified as Mustakin Islam, he was promptly sent back to his country, highlighting the state's stance on maintaining border security.
This incident underscores the stringent monitoring efforts in Assam's districts, including Karimganj, Cachar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar, which share a 267.5 km border with Bangladesh. The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the border will continue to be under strict surveillance.
Further emphasizing this stance, Assam's DGP G P Singh indicated close collaboration between the state police and the BSF to thwart any unauthorized entries from Bangladesh. However, the entry point at Sutarkandi will continue to accommodate the return of Indian passport holders navigating from unrest areas.
