In a decisive move, law enforcement in Madhya Pradesh's Burhanpur district has invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against Jahid Qureshi from Uttar Pradesh and Saif Ali from Madhya Pradesh. Both individuals have been accused of repeatedly engaging in the illegal transportation of cattle.
The NSA, a stringent law allowing for the preventative detention of individuals deemed threats to national security and law and order, has been applied to Qureshi and Ali. This action is aimed at preserving public peace ahead of the November 20 assembly elections in neighboring Maharashtra.
Qureshi, with a repeat history of illegal cattle transport across Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, and Ali, with multiple related offenses in Madhya Pradesh, were caught transporting 33 cattle in Burhanpur. They are currently detained in Khandwa, with charges under both state and animal cruelty laws.
