Germany has recalled its ambassador from Iran in a bold diplomatic protest following the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, a German-Iranian national accused of terrorism. The German foreign office announced the move on Tuesday, summoning Iran's charge d'affaires to communicate Berlin's strong objections.
The foreign ministry made a public statement on social media, asserting its strongest disapproval of the Iranian regime's actions and warning of potential further measures. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized the significance of the recall, signifying an escalating tension between Berlin and Tehran.
Iranian state media reported Sharmahd's execution after a conviction for orchestrating terrorist attacks, including a deadly mosque attack. In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi declared no tolerance for terrorism, even when such accusations involve foreign nationals. Meanwhile, Sharmahd's daughter seeks evidence of her father's death, further complicating the international fallout.
