In a significant development, BJP MLA from Shahjahanpur district, Hari Prakash Verma, has raised serious allegations against local law enforcement officials. Verma claims that the Special Operations Group and local police are involved in illegal recovery from fireworks shopkeepers, particularly during the festive season of Diwali.
Teasing out details, Verma's complaint suggests that retail shopkeepers are forced to buy fireworks from wholesalers, yet face raids and seizures by police, who allegedly extort these traders. He emphasized the inconsistency of laws which demand licenses from small sellers while allowing wholesalers to sell freely.
Responding to these allegations, District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh assured strict action would be taken. Singh mentioned that he received Verma's letter and is actively monitoring the situation to ensure that unlawful recoveries do not persist.
