Germany Recalls Ambassador Over Execution of German-Iranian National
Germany has recalled its ambassador to Iran in response to the execution of German-Iranian national Jamshid Sharmahd. The German government has strongly protested the actions taken by the Iranian regime. Sharmahd was convicted of terrorism and sentenced to death under charges of 'corruption on earth.'
Germany has taken a firm stance by recalling its ambassador to Iran following the reported execution of German-Iranian national Jamshid Sharmahd. The German foreign office announced the recall alongside summoning the Iranian charge d'affaires to express Berlin's strong protest against the execution.
The timeline of events began when Iran executed Sharmahd, who was accused of directing a pro-monarchist group responsible for a 2008 bombing, as well as planning further attacks. The charges leveled against him included 'corruption on earth,' considered a grave capital offense under Iran's Islamic laws.
The German foreign ministry aired its grievances on social media, confirming that Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has requested the ambassador's return to Berlin for discussions. Sharmahd's daughter, Gazelle, has publicly demanded proof of her father's execution and his immediate return.
