Twelve quarters housing displaced Kashmiri Pandits were consumed by a fierce fire on the outskirts of Jammu city, leaving residents in a state of despair. According to initial reports, the blaze ignited in an older section of the Purkhoo camp area and spread rapidly.
The blaze left many families with nothing as it incinerated household items, valuables, and even a two-wheeler. Help arrived quickly when firefighters rushed to the scene, yet, the damage was extensive. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Frustration mounts as residents like Naveen Pandita voice their concerns over the absence of district officials to assess the damage. The affected families are appealing for aid from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, seeking a compensation model akin to the Warwan incident in Kishtwar. Camp resident Santoshi emphasized the need for immediate intervention by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
