A disastrous incident has unfolded off the coast of Libya, where a boat carrying Egyptian migrants capsized, leaving 12 dead and one survivor. This tragedy, confirmed by local authorities and humanitarian group Al-Abreen, occurred 60 kilometers east of Tobruk.

Al-Abreen shared on Facebook that bodies were recovered and brought ashore. The incident underscores Libya's role as a critical transit point for migrants escaping war and poverty, as traffickers exploit the nation's ongoing instability.

The incident follows a similar capsizing last month, highlighting the perilous journeys undertaken by those desperate for a better life. According to the International Organisation for Migration, 962 migrants died off Libya in the previous year, with 17,200 intercepted and returned in 2023.
