Qassem Rises: Hezbollah's Leadership Shift

In a significant leadership transition, Lebanese armed group Hezbollah announced the appointment of Naim Qassem as the new secretary general. This follows the recent death of previous leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike.
Qassem, who has been deeply involved with Hezbollah since 1991 when he was appointed deputy chief, is set to continue the group's operations amid ongoing conflicts. His experience includes handling media interactions during numerous cross-border hostilities with Israel.
The leadership shift comes after Nasrallah and another senior member, Hashem Safieddine, were killed in separate Israeli attacks. In his recent televised speeches, Qassem has advocated for efforts to establish a ceasefire in Lebanon.
