In the week of Oct. 20-27, Russian forces captured 196.1 square kilometers of Ukrainian land, marking this year's swiftest territorial gain, as analyzed by the Russian media group Agentstvo using Ukrainian open-source maps.
Since President Vladimir Putin's order to invade Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has not achieved such rapid weekly advances since March 2022, despite Ukraine's brief foray into Russia's Kursk region. This latest surge highlights a pivotal shift as the war enters what Russia deems its most perilous phase.
Agentstvo, utilizing analysis from Ukraine's Deep State open-source intelligence, reported that 95 square kilometers were seized near Vuhledar and 63 near Pokrovsk in the Donbas area of eastern Ukraine. This advance underscores Russia's significant manpower and material advantage as Ukraine appeals for additional Western military support.
