Allegations of a phone call between US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have raised eyebrows across the international political scene. The purported discussion focused on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, according to unnamed sources, but Kremlin official Dmitry Peskov staunchly denied any such conversation took place.

The report, first published by The Washington Post, suggested that during the alleged call, Trump urged Putin not to escalate tensions and highlighted the significant US military presence in Europe. Trump, who has conversed with more than 70 world leaders since his election victory, might be seeking to ease potential crises before his inauguration in January 2025.

Amid claims of the conversation and its strategic implications, Trump's communications director, Steven Cheung, refrained from commenting on the matter. Cheung emphasized Trump's decisive election win and the ongoing recalibration of international alliances under the next US administration. The Kremlin, meanwhile, dismissed the narrative as unfounded fiction.
