The DMK, Tamil Nadu's ruling party, has filed a suit against AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, demanding Rs one crore in damages for remarks they claim are defamatory.
Justice RMT Teekaa Raman of the Madras High Court has scheduled a hearing on the case for next week. R S Bharathi, DMK's organization secretary, filed the suit, seeking to prevent Palaniswami, Leader of Opposition, from referencing the DMK in relation to allegations involving drug kingpin Jaffer Sadiq.
According to Bharathi, Palaniswami posted defamatory content online, implying the DMK's association with increased crime under its administration and urging public demonstrations. Despite Sadiq being removed from his DMK position prior to his arrest, Palaniswami continues to publicize these allegations, prompting the DMK's legal response.
