Militant Assault Claims Lives of 10 Pakistani Police Officers
An attack in Pakistan's northwest by the nationalist militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan resulted in the deaths of at least 10 police officers. The incident, part of a surge in regional militant activities, highlights ongoing tensions, with the TTP claiming retaliation for a leader killed in a prior operation.
In a devastating assault, at least 10 Pakistani frontier police officers were killed at an outpost near Dera Ismail Khan, authorities confirmed. On Thursday, the Islamist extremist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) launched the attack, contributing to an escalating wave of militancy in Pakistan's northwest region.
The attack, reportedly in retaliation for the death of their leader Ustad Qureshi, saw a significant group of militants targeting the frontier constabulary security force. Police sources, speaking anonymously, confirmed the tragic event, further authenticated by a statement from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur.
The Pakistani military revealed that Qureshi and others were killed in a Bajaur district operation. While the TTP commits allegiance to the Afghan Taliban, Islamabad accuses Afghanistan's Taliban government of providing sanctuary to the TTP. The Taliban deny providing such safe havens.
