On Thursday, Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leader Sarwan Singh Pandher declared that farmers in Punjab would initiate indefinite road blockades from October 26. This is a protest against the slow pace of paddy procurement and other pressing issues.
Pandher emphasized that the blockades, referred to as 'chakka jam', will occur in specific locations, including Sangrur, Moga, Phagwara, and Batala. The road blockades aim to draw attention to concerns over paddy procurement, insufficient DAP fertilizer, and penalties related to stubble-burning.
The farmer leader accused the Punjab government and the central authorities, led by the BJP, of failing to address these critical issues. With paddy lifting at a standstill, calls for increased government intervention have intensified, underscoring the tension between state and central administrations.
