Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs five lakh for families of those who perished in a recent building collapse, promising that the government will cover the full medical expenses for the injured.
Critics have targeted Siddaramaiah’s administration for its response to intense rainfall that hit Yelahanka, which was the most severe in 125 years. However, he insists the building collapse was due to poor construction practices rather than the weather and is addressing the issue through holding officials accountable.
The Chief Minister has suspended an Assistant Executive Engineer and suggested further actions against other officials. In light of ongoing legal battles regarding unauthorized constructions, Siddaramaiah stresses compliance with housing laws amid efforts to clear encroachments and enhance infrastructure against heavy rains.
