Strikes in Damascus Amidst Gaza Conflict
Israel carried out airstrikes in Damascus, targeting a residential building in Kafr Sousa. The strikes align with ongoing tensions in the region amid the current Gaza war. Israel has intensified attacks on Iranian-linked Syrian targets following an attack last October by the militant group, Hamas.
In a continuing series of regional tensions, Israeli forces launched airstrikes on the Syrian capital of Damascus early on Thursday. State media reported that these actions are part of a wider conflict linked to the ongoing war in Gaza.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), explosions were heard over Damascus after a residential building in the central neighborhood of Kafr Sousa was targeted. As of now, it is unclear if there were any casualties. Israel typically refrains from commenting on specific operations in Syria.
These strikes are part of Israel's larger strategy against Iranian-affiliated targets in Syria, which have increased markedly since an October 7 attack on Israel last year by the Palestinian militant organization, Hamas.
