Capture of Ecuadorean Crime Leaders in Spain

Two prominent figures in Ecuador's criminal underworld have been apprehended in Spain, police report. The arrests of 'Commander Willy,' leader of Los Tiguerones, and his brother Alex, second-in-command, mark a significant step in cracking down on organized crime.

The duo faced charges for orchestrating car bombings, contract killings, extortion, and launching a notorious attack on the TC television studio in Guayaquil earlier this year. The assault, which was aired live, was a shocking display of violence against media outlets.

The operation resulted from collaboration between Ecuadorean sheriffs and the Spanish Guardia Civil. The incident has sparked a governmental offensive against 22 criminal gangs, which are linked to various illegal activities, including the murder of a local prosecutor.
