Authorities have ramped up security in the eastern coast surfing resort of Arugam Bay after receiving intelligence about potential attacks on foreign tourists, specifically targeting Israelis. Police announced Wednesday that added protection measures are in place.

Approximately 500 police and Special Task Force officers are now stationed in the Arugam Bay and Pottuvil areas, according to local reports. The US Embassy in Colombo issued a travel alert citing credible threats, advising US citizens to avoid the region.

Russia's embassy released a similar warning, urging tourists to steer clear of large gatherings. Meanwhile, local Muslim groups protest against Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon. Law enforcement pledges to protect all tourists, while a hotline has been set up for reporting suspicious activities.
