Hamas Envoy in Moscow: Diplomatic Moves Amidst Middle East Tensions
Mousa Abu Marzouk, a senior Hamas member, has arrived in Moscow as part of a planned visit, according to Russian state media. The visit involves meetings with Russian officials, underscoring Moscow's relationships with key Middle Eastern players amid ongoing regional tensions.
Mousa Abu Marzouk, a prominent figure in Hamas, the militant Palestinian group that governs Gaza, has landed in Moscow. The visit, part of a previously arranged tour, was reported by RIA Novosti, the Russian state-run news agency, on Wednesday, citing diplomatic sources.
Marzouk, who is a member of the Hamas politburo, is expected to meet with a number of Russian officials during his stay. RIA Novosti, however, did not disclose details about these discussions. Russia maintains diplomatic ties with all critical stakeholders in the Middle East, including Israel, Iran, Lebanon, the Palestinian Authority, and Hamas.
Amidst the heightened tensions in the region, Moscow has consistently attributed the crisis to the breakdown of U.S. diplomatic efforts. The Russian government has called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and has urged a return to peace negotiations.
