The target of this alleged assassination plot, activist and journalist Masih Alinejad, has confirmed her identity to The Associated Press amidst reports that she fled Iran post the controversial 2009 presidential election. She now lives in exile in New York City.
The indictment paints Bazghandi as a former counterintelligence chief with the Revolutionary Guard. Formerly designated a global terrorist entity by US authorities, the Guard has been linked to various international terrorism activities, including Bazghandi's alleged role in orchestration against perceived adversaries.
