A court in Uttar Pradesh issued non-bailable warrants on Monday for several Hindutva activists and BJP leaders, including state minister Kapil Dev Agrawal and Dasna temple priest Yati Narsinghanand. The action was taken for their failure to appear in connection with the Muzaffarnagar riots case.

Special Judge Devendra Faujdar of the MP-MLA court set October 29 as the date for framing charges against the accused, who have been ordered to be present in court. Twelve out of twenty accused were absent, according to prosecution officer Niraj Singh.

The riots in 2013 resulted in over 60 deaths and displacement of more than 40,000 people in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts. Accusations involve inciting violence through speeches at a panchayat meeting. Former ministers and MPs were among those present and facing trial.
