A Delhi court has granted interim bail to Shadab Ahmad, an accused in a terror case related to the 2020 northeast Delhi riots, to attend his sister's wedding.

Ahmad, who has been in custody since May 2020 under charges explored by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police, was permitted to travel to his ancestral village in Uttar Pradesh between October 29 and November 5. The decision required him to submit personal and surety bonds of Rs 20,000 each.

Ahmad's legal plea emphasized his role as the family's eldest son in the wedding preparations and noted that his father is a senior citizen and the family's sole earner. The court's decision came despite objections from the prosecution, which cited his lack of permanent ties to Delhi.
