The Allahabad High Court has provided temporary relief to residents facing demolition of alleged illegal structures on the Kundasar-Mahasi-Nanpara-Maharajganj road, extending their response time by 15 days. The court has mandated that the state consider these replies, issuing reasoned decisions in each case.
The Lucknow bench, comprising Justices A R Masoodi and Subhash Vidyarthi, acted on a public interest litigation initiated by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights. Amidst controversy over the legality of the demolition notices, the interim order puts a pause on state actions amidst claims of violation of Supreme Court rulings.
The petitioner argues that the notices infringe on procedural norms outlined by the apex court, while the state defends the legitimacy of its actions. The court's intervention comes as authorities inspected properties, some linked to a recent violent incident in the district, underscoring the case's complexity.
