A sessions court in Maharashtra's Latur district has put a temporary halt on a lower court's directive to file a First Information Report (FIR) against BJP leader Archana Patil and 70 others, linked to a bank fraud case, an official revealed on Sunday.

Nonetheless, the Udgir rural police reported that they received the sessions court's stay order only on Saturday evening, by which time they had already registered the FIR earlier that afternoon against the accused.

The matter pertains to accusations that Archana Patil, daughter-in-law of Congress veteran Shivraj Patil, and others allegedly secured approximately Rs 10 crore in bank loans through fraudulent means, utilizing PAN and Aadhaar details of the employees of Life Care hospital in Udgir during 2014-2019. The registration of the FIR will now remain suspended according to senior inspector Rajkumar Pujari of the Udgir rural police station. Following a complaint, the police initially approached a lower court, leading to the order to register the case under the Code of Criminal Procedure, which was later stayed by the sessions court.
