German authorities announced on Sunday the arrest of a Libyan national suspected of plotting a firearms attack on the Israeli Embassy in Berlin. The individual, identified only as Omar A., was apprehended in Bernau, near Berlin, on Saturday evening, along with a search of his residence.
According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, Omar A. intended a high-profile attack, allegedly coordinating with a known Islamic State member via messenger chats. Another person's home was searched in connection to the investigation, although this individual is not considered a suspect.
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser emphasized the crucial nature of protecting Jewish and Israeli entities in Germany, while Justice Minister Marco Buschmann highlighted the serious threat of Islamist terrorism. The arrest was made possible due to a foreign intelligence tip, highlighting the vigilant measures in place against such threats.
