A sub-divisional officer in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district has filed a police complaint concerning 6,853 flawed applications submitted during online voter registration, an official reported on Sunday.
The SDO of the Rajura division, according to officials, lodged the complaint following the rejection of these applications in the constituency.
Collector Vinay Gowda stated that the Election Commission of India's special online voter registration drive commenced on October 3, attracting a significant number of applications. However, many were found lacking photos, birth dates, and residence proof, or containing erroneous information as identified by assistant voter registration officers and tehsildars in Rajura, Korpana, Jivati, and Gondpipari.
These applications, submitted via the Voter Helpline App or NVSP Portal, were subsequently rejected after diligent verification, the collector confirmed.
Rajura SDO and voter registration officer Ravindra Mane reiterated that the rejections followed the established procedure.
He reminded that the Maharashtra assembly elections are slated for November 20, with vote counting set for November 23.
