A catastrophic incident occurred in Katra Medniganj as a 55-year-old man, Mukhtar Ahmed, was killed following a massive firecracker explosion, which led to the collapse of his three-storey home.
Ahmed, a licensed firecracker maker, had stocked a large quantity of fireworks in anticipation of the Dussehra and Diwali festivities. The late-night explosion also caused a gas cylinder to burst, resulting in the collapse of the building's top two floors.
Two women, Ahmed's daughter-in-law and daughter, were rescued from the debris and are currently receiving treatment. This incident is part of a disturbing pattern, prompting UP Police to intensify actions against illegal firecracker production units statewide.
