France Hosts Global Talks to Address Lebanese Turmoil
France is organizing an international ministerial conference focusing on the political crisis and humanitarian needs in Lebanon amid tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. The event aims to rally international support and reinforce Lebanese institutions like the Armed Forces, emphasizing the importance of a diplomatic solution.
France will convene an international ministerial conference on October 24 to address the ongoing crisis in Lebanon, focusing particularly on political instability and humanitarian aid. The foreign ministry announced the conference amid rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
The primary objective is to mobilize the global community in responding to Lebanon's needs, notably through strengthening its institutions such as the Lebanese Armed Forces, deemed vital for maintaining internal stability. Israel is not on the invitation list, and the participation of various Lebanese political figures remains uncertain.
Given France's historic ties with Lebanon, Paris is collaborating with the United States to negotiate a ceasefire. Efforts were hindered in late September following intense Israeli bombardments in Beirut. The conference will include both regional and international stakeholders, the United Nations, and civil society groups, emphasizing a ceasefire and diplomatic resolution to Lebanon's intertwined crises.
