Kerala's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has informed the state Assembly that the central government is yet to provide assistance for the aftermath of landslides that struck Wayanad district on July 30.
Despite a formal request to expedite financial aid from the central government and a direct appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, no support has been received. The estimated losses are over Rs 1,200 crore.
The landslide's impact displaced soil and debris over an area, devastating several regions and widening the Punnapuzha River significantly. 231 bodies have been discovered, and efforts to identify them continue using DNA samples.
