The Calcutta High Court is set to hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on Monday aimed at registering an FIR against former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. The petition accuses Goyal of violating guidelines by disclosing the victim's name in a highly sensitive rape-murder case.
The case pertains to the death of a post-graduate trainee at R G Kar Medical College and has seen widespread unrest, including a 'cease work' by junior doctors. The Supreme Court has allowed the Calcutta High Court to hear the matter as it proceeds suo motu in the overarching issue related to the case.
The investigation has been transferred from Kolkata Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a more impartial probe, following multiple PILs, including one from the victim's family, demanding justice and accountability.
