The New Zealand Government has secured market access for New Zealand blueberries to South Korea, unlocking an estimated $5 million in annual export opportunities for local growers, Trade and Agriculture Minister Todd McClay announced today.

“This is a significant win for our exporters and builds on the successful removal of $190 million in Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) over the past year," McClay said. "We are committed to reducing barriers, opening new markets, and increasing value for our exporters.”

The deal follows long-running negotiations and increased bilateral engagement after the Prime Minister’s visit to Korea earlier this year. Last week, Korea finalized the legal requirements for importing New Zealand blueberries. The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) will now work swiftly to implement the necessary compliance measures to ensure Kiwi exporters can begin shipping as early as this season, in December and January.

“This agreement is part of the Government’s broader strategy to increase trade value by providing greater access to international markets. It aligns with our ambitious goal of doubling exports by value within ten years," McClay added.
