The Allahabad High Court has taken a firm stand against the culture of frequent strikes among lawyers, directing all district judges in Uttar Pradesh to refrain from circulating resolutions for strike calls issued by Bar Associations. The decision was made by a bench comprising Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Gautam Chowdhary.

The order came after the court was informed that members of the Bar frequently pass resolutions calling for strikes, leading to a near cessation of court activity. This leaves litigants in uncertainty and disrupts the judicial process, the court pointed out.

Highlighting the backlog of cases, the court urged lawyers to follow the resolution of the State Bar Council to hold condolence meetings at 3.30 pm, thereby avoiding a full day's obstruction of court work. Supreme Court lawyer K R Chitra, who appeared to assist the court, echoed these concerns, noting how frequent strike calls harm the profession's reputation. The court stressed the need for lawyers to introspect and restore faith in their noble profession.
