Phil Shiner, 67, a former British lawyer notorious for his legal actions on behalf of Iraqi civilians, admitted guilt to three counts of fraud on Monday, the National Crime Agency announced.

The charges were linked to fraudulent applications in 2007 for public funding to sue Britain's Ministry of Defence. An inquiry in 2014 determined that allegations against British soldiers were unfounded.

Shiner's deceitful actions breached his firm's contract and caused immense stress on British troops. His sentencing is set for December at London's Southwark Crown Court.
