Nalin Prabhat, a highly decorated IPS officer, assumed the role of Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday, taking over from the retiring R R Swain.
Appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs in August, Prabhat officially received the baton during a ceremony at the police headquarters. He stated he would assume command from midnight.
At 55, Prabhat brings extensive counter-insurgency experience, having previously led the elite anti-Naxal Greyhounds unit and held significant roles in the CRPF. His recent tenure as Director General of the National Security Guard was cut short for his current role. His expertise is seen as crucial for addressing the complex security dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir, especially given the ongoing threats from terrorism and internal unrest.
