In a distressing series of events, a minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by five individuals, including two of her friends, in Odisha's Rourkela city, according to police statements issued on Wednesday.
The police have filed a case at Raghunathpalli police station following a complaint lodged by the victim's family on Tuesday night. According to the initial police report, the girl went out to a restaurant with two friends on Sunday night before being taken to an isolated area where she was assaulted by the group. The assailants reportedly included three additional individuals.
Rourkela SP Brijesh Kumar Rai stated that a dedicated police team, led by the additional SP, has initiated a thorough investigation, assuring that all perpetrators will be apprehended shortly. This alarming incident marks the third such case in Rourkela within a week.
In related incidents, two minor girls from Jharkhand were allegedly gang-raped by three youths on Saturday, while a class 9 girl student was reportedly harassed by her school teacher the same day. Rai confirmed that arrests have been made in both cases, and police are expediting steps to submit charge sheets within the next 15 days.
Such incidents are shedding light on the urgent need for enhanced safety measures for young girls and stringent actions against sexual offenders in the region.
