Sri Lanka's Supreme Court has taken a strong stance against Controller General of Immigration and Emigration, Harsha Ilukpitiya, by ordering his remand for contempt of court.

The decision came after Ilukpitiya disregarded an interim order to halt the implementation of an outsourced electronic visa process.

A three-member bench determined that Ilukpitiya's non-compliance warranted his detainment until the case's conclusion, slated for January.
