UN Fails to Prevent Hezbollah Rocket Attacks, Israel Claims

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant accused the United Nations of neglecting its responsibility to prevent rocket attacks into Israel by Iran-backed Hezbollah from Lebanon.

The criticism came in a statement on the social-media platform X, where Gallant responded to recent comments by U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres. Gallant claimed that Hezbollah has taken Lebanon hostage.

Gallant argued that the UN is failing to acknowledge Hezbollah's actions or uphold its fundamental duty of enforcing resolution 1701, which mandates Hezbollah's disarmament. Meanwhile, Guterres cautioned that Lebanon is teetering on the brink of crisis, which could have severe implications for the region.
