Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday called on the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) to transition into a technology-oriented force, capable of addressing both conventional and future security threats.

Speaking at the Coast Guard Commanders' Conference, Singh reinforced the government's commitment to creating a self-reliant Coast Guard. He praised the ICG's role in safeguarding India's extensive coastline and stressed the urgent need for advanced technology to bolster national security in these unpredictable times.

Singh highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize the force, including the construction of 31 ships worth over Rs 4,000 crore by Indian shipyards and the Defense Acquisition Council's approval for various critical procurements. The minister also paid homage to the late ICG Director General Rakesh Pal, calling his passing an irreparable loss.
