President Joe Biden welcomed Indo-Pacific leaders from Australia, Japan, and India to his hometown, highlighting the partnership he has strengthened during his tenure. The summit focused on enhancing maritime security and humanitarian missions as a counter to China's assertiveness.
“All politics is personal, all diplomacy is personal,” said White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan. By hosting the leaders at his home and alma mater, Biden emphasized his commitment to the partnership. Discussions included economic and security issues, particularly China's influence and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The leaders announced initiatives to bolster maritime security and cooperation, with further collaboration on Biden's Cancer Moonshot Initiative. The meeting also saw the establishment of a “Quad Caucus” in Congress to ensure the partnership’s longevity.
