Trump Rejects Another Debate with Harris Before Election
Donald Trump rejected another debate with Kamala Harris before the U.S. presidential election. Harris had agreed to a debate on October 23, but Trump stated it was too late as voting had already started. The two previously debated on September 10, and Biden had withdrawn from the race in July.
WASHINGTON, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Donald Trump on Saturday rejected another debate with Vice President Kamala Harris before the U.S. presidential election. This came hours after Harris's campaign announced her agreement to an October 23 matchup with her Republican rival on CNN.
"Vice President Harris is ready for another opportunity to share a stage with Donald Trump, and she has accepted CNN's invitation to a debate on October 23. Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate," Jen O'Malley Dillon, the chair of the Harris campaign, said in a statement.
However, Trump reiterated his previous stance against another debate before the November 5 election, telling supporters at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, that it was too late as voting had already started. Harris and Trump had debated on September 10, which polls showed Harris won. Trump also debated President Joe Biden in June, leading to a shaky performance by Biden and subsequent considerations within the Democratic party about replacing the 81-year-old candidate. Biden withdrew from the race in July.
