The Supreme Court on Friday sought a response from the Bar Council of India (BCI) regarding a plea challenging its decision to bar final year LLB students from the All India Bar Examination (AIBE), a qualifying test for law graduates to enroll as lawyers.

A bench composed of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra heard the plea filed by nine final year LLB students from the Campus Law Centre and the Law Centre of Delhi University.

In issuing a notice, the top court asked the BCI to provide instructions and scheduled the plea for a hearing next week.
