A court in Sangareddy district of Telangana has sentenced 56-year-old laborer Gaffar Ali to death for the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in October 2023.
The Special POCSO (FTS) Judge Court delivered the verdict, finding Ali guilty under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act, according to police officials.
Prosecution reports indicate that the girl was left in the care of a security guard by her grandparents while they were at work on October 16, 2023. The intoxicated Ali, claiming familiarity with the girl, took her on the pretext of getting a cool drink.
He gave the girl an alcohol-laced drink, took her to a nearby cotton field, and proceeded to rape and murder her with a knife. Ali was later apprehended and charged after a complaint was lodged by the grandparents.
