Starting October 9, eligible foreign nationals coping with the death of a partner and experiencing financial hardship can apply to have their settlement application fee waived, according to new regulations laid out in Parliament this week.

Currently, individuals seeking settlement in the UK after the death of a British citizen partner must pay a GBP 2,885 fee, regardless of any change in financial status due to the loss. Migration and Citizenship Minister Seema Malhotra stated that this fee will now be waived as part of a 'fairer and more compassionate approach' for those facing financial distress during times of grief.

Additionally, the UK is introducing a new diplomatic visitor visa process, replacing current Diplomatic Visa Waivers with a 'Diplomatic Visa Arrangement' to ensure streamlined access for diplomatic passport holders. VIP Delegate Visas will also be launched, targeting delegations accompanying foreign Heads of State and government ministers on official visits.
