The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated legal proceedings against Sai Shankar Landa, Deputy Director, Registrar of Companies Mumbai, accusing him of soliciting a Rs 2 crore bribe to draft a favorable report for an investigated company, officials disclosed on Thursday.
After registering the FIR against Landa on Tuesday, CBI conducted searches at his residences in Mumbai and Vishakhapatnam on Wednesday. The investigation stemmed from a complaint filed by a businessman whose firm was under scrutiny by RoC Mumbai, alleging the bribe request in exchange for a favorable report.
According to the CBI FIR, undercover verification on April 23, 2024, in the presence of witnesses, revealed Landa's agreement to accept a reduced bribe of Rs 30-35 lakhs after negotiation. Subsequent to the verification, CBI secured authorization under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, to advance legal action against him.
