With two months to go until the national apology to survivors of abuse in care, expressions of interest are now open for survivors wishing to attend. The national apology will be delivered by the Prime Minister on Tuesday, November 12, at Parliament.

“This will be a significant day for survivors, their families, whānau, and support networks, as we formally acknowledge the immense harm caused by state and faith-based institutions across New Zealand over the decades,” said Lead Coordination Minister Erica Stanford.

The government aims to ensure as many survivors as possible can participate in an apology event. Given limited space in Parliament, the apology will be live-streamed to venues in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.

Survivors and one support person can register to attend either the event at Parliament or the one closest to their home. Travel costs, including one night of accommodation, will be covered, with assistance provided for air travel, petrol vouchers, train and bus tickets, or reimbursement for private transport.

"On November 12, we will also provide more details on our response to the Royal Commission’s final report, as we remain committed to a respectful and dignified response," said Minister Stanford.
