Anti-war groups have continued their protests outside a major defence exhibition in Melbourne for a second consecutive day. Violent clashes with police on Wednesday led to several injuries among law enforcement officers, prompting further security measures and new barricades.

Riot squad officers and specialist personnel have been deployed in what is considered Melbourne's largest security operation since the World Economic Forum in 2000. Authorities used sponge grenades, flash-bang devices, and irritant sprays to control the crowd, arresting dozens while addressing hostile actions including rock, manure, and bottle throwing.

Protesters, around 1,500 strong, carried pro-Palestine slogans and flags among other causes. Victoria state police reported 22 charges and 27 officers requiring medical treatment. The protests have spurred responses from various political parties, with calls for an independent inquiry into police actions by the Greens. The defence expo is set to conclude on Friday, featuring participants from 31 countries.
