Commerzbank's board recently held discussions to devise strategies for maintaining the German lender's independence in light of a potential acquisition bid from UniCredit, an insider revealed on Wednesday.
According to two anonymous sources, Commerzbank will fulfill its legal obligations to engage in formal talks with UniCredit if approached. However, the bank prefers to follow its standalone strategy.
Commerzbank has declined to comment on the matter.
