Uttarakhand Police Toughens Stance Amid Rising Crime Rates
In response to rising crime rates, DGP Abhinav Kumar has mandated 100% registration of serious crimes in Uttarakhand. Non-compliance will lead to actions against underperforming police stations. This decision follows a surge in crimes, especially against women, prompting Chief Minister Dhami’s concern and directives for stringent action.

With a surge in crime rates across Uttarakhand, DGP Abhinav Kumar unequivocally instructed all state police superintendents on Wednesday to ensure 100% registration of serious crimes such as murder, rape, loot, and robbery.
'Victims should not have to struggle to file FIRs, particularly in grievous cases like rape and murder. This will not be tolerated,' the DGP emphasized in a statement to PTI. Police stations underperforming in solving and recovering from heinous crimes will face stringent action. The performance benchmark set by Kumar is notably higher than the national average, with a three-month evaluation period.
Today's directives followed a detailed three-hour meeting with senior officials in response to a recent spike in crimes, particularly against women. Incidents of alleged rape, murder, and molestation have heightened communal tensions, leading to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's unexpected inspection at police headquarters.
The Chief Minister's concern and emphasis on zero tolerance for negligence in crime and law enforcement underline the state's intensified focus on maintaining public safety and order.
